Reading Books

Parents/Caregivers

Could you please have a hunt at home for any reading books that belong to the school. Due to there only being few weeks left in the school year we are collecting in all the reading books for a stock take. This will therefore mean that your child will no longer be coming home with school reading books. They will still be reading in the class but it is in a different form.

Kind Regards

Lucy and Sally

Dream giver

One spooky night there was a naked, sneaky dreamgiver breaking the window like a burglar and flying down to the bed in the dark spooky orphanage to give every single child a good dream.
The ugly dreamgiver carried a rucksack full of magical dream eggs. He cracked the eggs and golden sap came out and the dreamgiver created a dream.
He put the egg next to the boys foot and the boy kicked it. The big panther got choked and died and the boy woke up.

Jacob's Holiday Story.

I was feeling really excited when I was heading towards the Margaret Mahy playground on the private bus. Me, Jessie and Ryan were sitting together. When we got there we had lunch and when we finished lunch we were aloud to play. We played on the big spirally slide. It even made me brake my shoe. It was high and it was a long way to climb.  It was the best day of my life.

Hayley's Holiday

I was squished up next to Hunter, mattresses and pillows. I was of to Waikeri to see my Nana and Grandad. I did weeding so that the garden was nice and clean. I went there by car and we left Thursday. I had so much fun with the dogs Fatboy and Jade and the cat Angel. We rode ponies. When I left I felt very sad because I did not want to leave Nana and Grandads house.

Qyns holiday

I was excited to go to church! After we went to go to church we went to the mall! My Mum bought me a shopkins . Then we went home. My Dad called my friend to see if we can come over . We had lunch. We had KFC and we also had dinner there. It was fun.

Mata's Olympic Poem

This week Matai students created an Olympics poem. We worked together and shared our ideas about the olympics. We then made our own poems. Come into our learning space next week to see the ones that are on our wall.

The Olympics
   By Matai
Once every four years
Laughing and cheering
Yelling and screaming for our country to win
Medals are hard to win
People are playing different sports
It’s hard to qualify for the Olympics
Cheering for our country
Supporting others when they are competing

Duffy Assembly

Yesterday we had a Duffy Assembly and were lucky enough to have Dr Megan Woods, MP, as our special guest. The children loved receiving their new books. The Choir sang Octopuses' Garden and did very well for their first performance in public.

Here is Megan presenting some books in Matai after the assembly.

Action Stations

Hope everyone enjoyed Queen's Birthday weekend....

Today we introduced Action Stations in Matai....if you have children in Kowhai or Pohutukawa you will be familiar with these.

Each week we will pose a question to the children and they think about this while trying action stations of their choice.

This week's question is "How do we learn from someone else?"

We have started with 10 stations which cover reading, writing, maths, I.T., art, problem solving, collaborative activities, fitness and construction.

They also help with Cognitive, Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Co-operative, Social, Emotional, Language and Persistence skills.

Matai stars

On Friday, Matai ran our CARES assembly, the focus was on "Co-operation".
Thank you to our presenters, for some it was the first time they have spoken in front of the school which can be a bit nerve wracking so well done!

Congratulations to Aryan and Bronte who received CARES awards.

Margaret Mahy Playground visit

Our whole school enjoyed our recent trip to the amazing Margaret Mahy playground. Students are now busy deciding what they would like to see in our playground at Wigram School in 2018. They will soon be
creating their own 2D and 3D designs to share at the
end of Term 3.

Some of the most popular choices are the big slide, the monkey bars, a climbing wall, obstacle course and flying fox.
